News : Rock n Roll with Fast Bits

No Credit writes"

No Credit's debut ep 'Rock n Roll with Fast Bits' is due for release in late November. Tracks off the ep will be available for free download from the bands website November 9th.

Residing in Bayside Melbourne, the boys teamed up with new guitarist Ryan in early 08 and forced themselves onto the Melbourne scene, playing at a long list of venues with a longer list of bands. Midyear, the band released the 'Blood Sweat & Beers' demo and had the thrill of opening for Strung out and No Use For A Name.

The closing months of 08 will see No Credit support Lagwagon (Peninsula Lounge, Nov 27) and boogie with The Go Set, Lost Boy Found and Backyard Surgeons. Throw in an ep launch show somewhere (tba) and another show or two and the years done and dusted.

Having stumbled accross email technology, the band came up with the idea to let people give them their 'email' addresses so they could keep informed about shows and releases and stuff.. a 'mailing list'. To get things moving, the first 50 subscribers will be posted a f..f..free copy the ep 'Rock n Roll with Fast Bits'. The mailing list, music and gig details are available at myspace.com/nocreditband

News : Shelley Harland @ Manchester Lane

team writes"Shelley Harland live @ Manchester Lane on Nov 4th, 2008 - 8:30 PM.

Shelley Harland will make her first appearance at Manchester Lane on Nov. 4th at 8:30 PM.

http://www.myspace.com/shelleyharland

Shelley Harland’s music career began in a tiny Brooklyn apartment where her only companions were a four-track recorder, a beaten up acoustic guitar and *****roaches. Never trained on an instrument and with a desire to create the songs that persistently played in her head she taught herself composition by ear. Her writing talents, vocals, and programming skills were soon recognized and lead to collaborations with such luminaries as John Cale (of the Velvet Underground), Ferry Corsten, Guru (Jazzmatazz), Junkie XL, Pole Folder, Josh Abraham, Delerium, and many more. After taking over vocal duties for Sarah McLachlan and Sixpence None The Richer's Leigh Nash for the Delerium U.S. and Canadian tour, Harland received glowing reviews for her performance. "...an angelic voice unlike any I had heard before." --Auralgasms. Shelley spends her time between Australia, New York, and London and continues to create the music she feels in her heart. She is currently touring Australia for her forthcoming album ‘Red Leaf’.

Bands & Artists : Stalking Blake

fozcore writes"Stalking Blake is 4 piece punk rock band who started in 2006 and have recently gone through a line-up change.
After takin 6 months to regroup and write some new songs, the SB crew are back on the scene playing shows with energy and speed.

THe new SB line up consists of the same old drummer and guitarist (Joel and Foz, respectively), but now also includes Ander on Bass and Luke (also from Hold Your Fire) on guitar. Vox being provided by everyone (except luke)

SB are not one to be pidgeon holed as their songs range in style and content, from serious political topics, to comical situations, from poppy punk, to oi punk, to metal.
An SB show will be one of the the most entertaining and surprising gigs you'll see for some time.

If you like high energy punk rock wit catchy chorus, distinctive guitar licks, machine-gun-like drums, then check out Stalking Blake.

News : NMIT Annual Melbourne Live Music Survey

liminal writes"LIVE MUSIC NEEDS YOUR HELP

The Melbourne music scene is in crisis!

Venues are disappearing at a rate of knots!

Pokies/non-smoking laws/noise regulations have crippled our industry!

The sky is falling!

That’s what they say… But is it really true?

The NMIT Live Music Survey is on again, to discover the truth.

So far, this annual study has uncovered the following startling facts:

  • At least 73,492 live performances took place in Melbourne during the 2006 – 2007 financial year – an increase of 8% on the previous year’s figures.

  • The growth rate in live performances and gig-related advertising has steadily increased since 2000.

  • The majority of venue operators and musicians confirm that their audiences have increased.

If you would like to have your say about Melbourne’s live music scene, either as a punter or a muso, head to the following link. This will enable the NMIT Team to continue its valuable work:
