Bands & Artists : Luke Legs
lukelegs writes""The wheel has been re-invented" As winter 2004 draws to an end, Luke Legs are preparing for the release of one of the most charming, yet sombre and mature independent debut E.P's of our day....and the young band are fast turning heads in the industry. Luke Legs are a folk inspired 5 piece ensemble that encapsulates powerful lyrics, and soothing, yet uniquely intense arrangements. Front man, Luke Hindson, writes scattered compositions made up of three dimensions. 1.Time, 2.Texture, and 3.Melody. A piano here....and a violin there. With soft and timeless expressions, the band sets scenes with music, then Hindson paint's portraits over the top with words. A stroke here....and a stroke there. Luke penned most of these tunes when he took a year off working, to live alone in a tent in the Victorian Otways . Right from then, he knew exactly how he wanted them to sound. Soon enough, he fell into the warm recording and engineering arms of John Dallimore and Jack the Bear (silverchair,Jet). Whilst recording the EP as a soloist, Luke netted fellow musician Bud to play violin on the album, then James O'Neill to play piano too. Not long after, Johny Jon Jon Mole and Brendan Lane(Sushi Street Riots) came to play Bass and Drums. The band were born and something clicked. John Dallimore says of the band, “These guys are incredible! For such a sad sound, they must be the happiest people I know! I have never met a band who bounce off one another so well, and it shows...In their music and personalities.” With the release of the debut EP "It Doesn't Rain it Pours" on August 2nd, it is becoming clear that a new toy this rare should not be played with. The E.P tells sombre tales of love and what could have been... and the live show has a somewhat theatrical touch to accompany this. Luke Legs are from Surfcoast Victoria, but sound as though they have fallen from the sky's of Bohemia. Uni student's and music lovers will lap this band up. One needs not to listen to Luke Legs long, to see what the fuss is about. The buzz and groundswell that has fast been made for this band is well justified. Luke Legs are a package. The reciepe? Original tunes, with an acoustic, yet intense sombre sound, played by a band who are talented, best friends, and are having a whole lot of fun!
