News : Record YR MusicOZ Awards entry LIVE in Melbourne!
VicMUSIC writes"The Musicoz Awards are open and what better way to
enter than record your entry live! There’s limited places to record
your entry live at the Noise bar in Brunswick every Thursday night in July & at Zudio Studio in Clayton on Sunday the 16th & 23rd July!
partnership with VicMUSIC, NoiseTV and Zudio Studio, Musicoz is excited
to announce that Melbourne’s unsigned artists have the opportunity to
lay down their tracks to enter the annual Musicoz Awards – Australia’s
biggest Awards for unsigned artists.
Recording in a
professional studio can produce excellent results for bands but there
are those bands and solo artists who are currently either just starting
off and can’t afford studio time or haven’t got home recording
facilities. Not only that, but some performers tend to play better live
and so what better way to get your songs on a CD and enter the Musicoz
Awards at the same time?
“It’s cheap means of recording and it’s
a great way to hear how you sound live,” said Kimberley Hopkins,
Publicist for Musicoz. “It costs $25 per song to enter the Musicoz
Awards and like all entries, if you record a fourth song at Noise bar,
it’s for free. So in a nutshell, the recording is free and you enter
those songs into the Musicoz Awards. It’s that easy!”
entering the Musicoz Awards, artists are in the running to win over a
hundred thousand dollars in cash and prizes and industry opportunities
including instruments from Turramurra Music, mastering at Turtlerock,
production deals with Faultline Records, Tone Market and Central
Station Records (to name just a few). Plus other awesome prizes like
recording time at Trackdown, Velvet Studios, Mainstreet and Studio 301.

development of original contemporary music in Victoria, both as an art
form and as an industry, so it was a perfect fit,” said Julie.

Bands & Artists : Debra Manskey
Debra Manskey was born
into a musical family in South Australia. In fact,
for the first ten or twelve years of her life, Debra thought everyone lived in
a home where music was on the menu most nights of the week.
“Growing up, it was a
revelation for me to discover that some families didn’t play music together or
even own a musical instrument. We used
to sit around the kitchen table and just do it!
Looking back, it’s a gift I can’t thank my parents enough for.”
Her older brother Ivan was
a gifted jazz drummer and her father, Charles Manskey was a fine performer,
music teacher and multi-instrumentalist.
Making her debut at age 6, Debra got a taste for live performing very
early that hasn’t ever really left her.
Throughout her long
career, Debra has graced many concert stages and festivals across Australia, including Pt Fairy Folk Festival, Moomba, Cygnet
Folk Festival and Tasmania’s jewel, 10 Days on the Island. In recent years as a solo
performer she has also supported other outstanding artists such as The Stiff
Gins, Neil Murray, Sophie B Hawkins, Mick Thomas and the inimitable Dave
One of the founding
members of Australian 80’s indie darlings Wild Pumpkins at Midnight, Debra’s
trademark, soaring vocals contributed to the Pumpkins’ 1990 ARIA award for
“This Machine is Made of People” (Best Independent Release).
Debra is also highly
regarded as an arts administrator and educator. She regularly conducts specialist workshops
for adults and children in voice, songwriting and music business competencies.
In 2006, Debra has
performed with Sophie B Hawkins, supported The Bat Band, conducted workshops on
King Island in western Bass
Strait and produced
‘Sampler’ – a live CD from The Pea***** Theatre which should be available
commercially in the later half of this year.
