News : psyn live @ The Underpass 10/6/2004

psyn writes"Hi All, psyn an original Melbourne Rock outfit have a gig at The Underpass on June 10th, 2004. We need an audience. Anyone. Gals/guys bring your friends along. Without your support new bands cannot last long as pubs DEMAND that the band supplies the AUDIENCE. Come along, have a few drinks, listen to the music, TELL us we are shit/OK/listenable, have an evening out, meet new people - meet us. Song list:Paradise Lost, Innocent Victims (tribute to 9/11), Lady Destiny, Reality Slips, Mr. Politic Man (good old johny boy..???), Sorry (what johny cannot say), Ordinary Madness, Reality Slips, Love and War. News : lets get it right on stage

richardrocks writes"The last few months ive been cruzing around pubs and venues listening to bands and their styles . i came across a band which totally blew me away for poor production and generaly bad timing . The selection of songs was perfect but the final product was very disturbing .What was wrong you may ask? Well these days its hard to get good gigs but hey ,dont blow it by not doing your home work , cover bands are not the perfect reproduction of a song , its your own feel and interpretation but you cant go on stage with 4 instrments and 1 singer and only have 3 members switched on. The band i saw had a great leed guitarist ,a brillant singer but the bass and drums were either not interested or simply just going thru the motions of a gig . Both these members were either behind the beat (mainly the drummer ) and the bass was way out of tune and didnt even resemble the tune of the song . Yes im a musician i can pick it but when a person standing next to you ,who has no musical knowledge but knows their songs from radio or tv asks you whats this song called you have to ask yourself what the hell are these musos trying to achieve .I told this person i think they are trying to play a living end song but im not quite sure which one . I must say that i was embaresed for them . So hey to all you budding rock stars out there , have a good listen to yourselves ,you dont have to be perfect but for crying out loud make sure you have some likeness to the song and for gods sake get the timing right , its not only musically minded people who are knocking you .The punters are also . You will notice that i have not named the band or venue ,which i will not do as it is not fair to both , My only intention is to say have a good listen to what you are doing ,dont go on stage and do 50% go there and strut your stuff and give it 100% and with a bit of luck you may get 90% right and make your public hungry to come and see you again . Thats my say for this week RICHARDROCKS "

News : Steve Tallis and The Holy Ghosts CD Launch - Loko

georgie writes"

The Holy Ghosts Go Loko @ The Rainbow

Western Australia’s Blues Shaman, Steve Tallis, will launch his new CD, Loko, at the Rainbow Hotel in an exclusive Melbourne performance on Wednesday 19th May.

Supported by a special Melbourne lineup of The Holy Ghosts, Ray Pereira on percussion and Jenny Thomas (Akin) on violin, Steve will take fans on a musical journey guaranteed to move the spirit and touch the soul.

Steve Tallis has lived and performed in the USA, Europe and Asia supporting some of the biggest names in music including the legendary Bob Dylan. Influences include Leadbelly, John Coltrane, Tim Buckley, Captain Beefheart, Sun Ra, Tony Williams Lifetime, Van Morrison, Howling Wolf, Tom Waits, Jack Bruce, Kip Hanrahan and Bob Dylan. African, Indian, Haitian and Islamic music have all had a spiritual and rhythmic influence on his own work.

Steve started playing music in 1962. Growing up surrounded by the music of his Macedonian ancestors and the ethnic music of Greece, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and Turkey opened his mind and spirit to trancelike rhythms, improvisation and chanting. He started listening to the sounds of the radio Bob Dylan, Them, Animals, Rolling Stones, Manfred Mann, Jimi Hendrix, Yardbirds, Kinks, Loved Ones and Spectrum - inspiring him to search back further to the roots of the music he loved and then back to the source Africa.

Awards include Songwriter Of The Year, Most Original Work, and Album Of The Year . Steve was also inducted into Western Australia Music Industrys Hall of Fame and is featured in the books Whos Who of Australian Rock and Blues, Working Musicians and Further Down the Road.
