News : Renown Producer David Carr is now taking bookings for June 2012
david_carr_producer writes" "An impressive sound" -Sylvia Massey
"David Carr is a like a secret you whisper to your friends. A musician's musician, he plays like an angel, engineers like the devil, and lifts to the sky any song he graces with his touch".
A talented multi-instrumentalist in his own right, David Carr's mission as a Record Producer is to make every Production hold it's own, both artistically and sonically, against the world's stage and all within an Australian budget.
He brings 25 years of experience and the benefit of having learnt his craft whilst under guidance of experienced producers and engineers- and all of this was paid for by the long gone era of 80's and 90's record company excess.
David has received much praise by way of comparison. He has been called both Australia's Butch Vig and Rick Rubin (the latter for the fact David can be recording a 'roots' outfit one week and Death Metal the next). Contemporaries see parallels to the work of Steve Albini, Brendan O'Brien and Andy Wallace.
Because of these associations it is common for music industry Captains to make many assumptions about David's production sound; that perhaps his mixes were done by Americans, that his studio is all analog tape based or that he mixes on an SSL console. When quizzed about the gear he uses David is quick to point out that what really matters is the creative talents of the engineer. Tools, both new and vintage cannot create sounds and this is why Mr Carr gets the same world class sound regardless of the Studio he is using, tools, location or budget.
Peter Mazlin, A&R at Gotham records suggests David is one hit away from a massive commercial career but despite Peter's observation, David Carr's continuing allegiance to independent Artists is testament to his belief in Producing 'honest' music and the rejection of the "cookie cutter" ethos.

Music is What Matters
A good number of musicians recognize that time spent in the recording studio is a big determent of future success. Many musicians place strong emphasis on their music itself, although promotion and performance quality are also important. The right promotion decisions usually make a big difference in how many people will get to hear a new act's music. Making a band stand out from the rest may take some creative brainstorming, but this planning is necessary due to the competitive nature of the music business. Good demo tracks, band websites, and live performances also play a role in building a loyal fan following. Websites in particular can bring a band's finished tracks to as many new listeners as possible.
High Quality Product Creation
Musical talent is only one part of a high quality product, and presentation is another key factor. Studio quality demo recordings are generally preferred over home recordings despite improvements in technology. A recording session with professional sound engineers can make a large difference in the final product's sound quality.
Professional musicians and recording engineers are able to separate band performances from their presentations, although listeners need to perceive the two as one and the same. A metal band can have a great sound, but their performance can fall flat on a poorly-designed stage. Factors that can improve this presentation usually include stage lighting
, band photography
, and active stage presence.
Selling band merch is a common and effective way to bring in the needed income for a newer band in the beginning. Time spent practicing in rehearsal studios Melbourne only pays off for bands who are able to maximize their earning power. Band posters and CDs are popular sellers at live performances, and these also need some planning in order to sell well. CD packaging and artwork are initial investments, though many bands find the expense worth the returns. A good deal of music tracks are now sold through digital downloading, although many people still like to take home a physical product such as a music CD.
Pulling it All Together
The work that a band accomplishes in the recording studio is often a catalyst for the success to follow. Developing a catchy sound is only the first part, and promotion is required to get the word out about it. Time spent in a rehearsal studio can be expensive by the hour, but many bands consider this investment another requirement for bringing in a solid fan base. Live gigs present the best opportunities for band photography and for selling merchandise. A great presentation and great music stand the best chances of bringing a new band success in the music industry."
