Cheers man, appreciate the feedback!

Yep, can't change the tunes - but it is funny. Sometimes the song seems dull from the first listen, but when you get into working on it, you put something unique in that represents you as a musician - and the song is not dull anymore, at least, for you Smile

What are you playing/composing/producing?

Yeah, I totally get what you mean. I feel similarly about some of what ive worked on. Most of which ive also been a band member of, so i kind of dig the tunes to begin with, or at least have some sort of say in their flow and feel.

I started out as a freelance session muso doing minor mixes of my own for friends and my own stuff before an old friend of mine just so happened to be looking for another sound engineer to be 2IC in his business doing sound engineering. We are called Jam Audio, and Ive been working with him for the past 8 months mainly doing live sound. A lot of the studio work i do is in my own time, or with clients of his in between work.

Im producing 2 EPs and 1 album at the moment. Both aiming to be released within the next few months. The 2 EPs are with a group called Schikain. These guys play pretty punchy, proggy, headbanging tunes with a a good mash up of tool, soundgarden, faith no more and Live. Nice 90's rock feel without sounding dated or overdone.
The Album is for a group called Ozergun, they play anything from soft rock, blues with groove, jazz standard "sound alikes", funk and what have you. Ive played drums for both bands, and recorded bass for schikain, so i have a pretty big say in how things are put together.

Otherwise Ive co produced quite a few albums and EPs ranging from country, to soul/reggae, metal and jazz. Im still trying to build a strong ear for tone and frequency and figured what better way to do that than to say yes to everything! Very Happy

Im sure our paths will cross at some point, as youre doing a fine job, and i intend to keep in touch. Keep it up.

Very interesting path!

How hard was it to pick up the live sound? I am actually considering getting into it at some point, haven't had any chance to do it yet.

I love the description of Schikain, and I do dig the 90s sound a lot (oh, SSL!)
I would like to listen to your work with pleasure, please feel free to send it my way (and if you'd like to add me on Facebook, I would appreciate it a lot).

Yes, doing different genres helps a lot to educate yourself, stay open-minded, move forward and appreciate different music! I could only do that after I've entered the production world and appreciate this opportunity.

I am also sure our paths will cross - and please keep up the hard work Smile

Getting my head around live sound is an on goig learning experience, as we deal with lots of different types of bands. But really, once youve got your head around how and why different mics, instruments, mixing consoles and such work, its a matter effienctly executing a process, simliar to recording a band.

Youll want to make sure everyone can hear themselves, without that feeding back, as well as clearly seperating the on stage sound from the front of house sound so there is no ugly spill or feedback. That stuff you learn pretty quickly, provided youre able to get out the and work with someone who knows what they are doing, lotherwise you could be up shit creek pretty fast! Very Happy

Otherwise as hole, its easy, but presents new challenges with each new band and venue, which keps it interesting.

Having played music my whole life definitely helps me relate to the musicians and ultimately produce a cleaner sound. So having that heads up with your experience in the studio will definitely give you an advantage when you step out into the live scene.

Id be happy to send you some of what im working for the sake of comparison and criticism. Im always happy to share it around and get new perspectives on what might not be working, or what can be done differently or better.
Once Ive got the songs at a point where they are "demo worthy" ill send a few over to you.

I dont have facebook anymore, got rid of it a few years ago. Some people say you cant have a successful business without it. Well, i beg to differ Razz

Heres my email anyhow:
danielvanhorssen@hotmail.com

Thanks again.
Peace.

P.S. Jam Audio (the company i work for), will likely be recruiting a few new members to start a small team of engineers. Mostly for live stuff, but there wil be some studio work also. This would most likely be before the end of the year. Ill hit you up when the time comes. If your keen let me and want to get on board sooner we are open for people to express their interest, as we often get gigs we have to turn down due to lack of staff being available. Let me know Smile
