Putting the feelers out, as progress is underfoot ...

Dec 2018, two of us went into a studio and started writing tunes. 8 months later, we have produced five demo recordings, and are now stepping it up into a fully fledged band. We are LUCK. We have a friend who is an amazing drummer coming in to see if he gels with the sketches we've created so far.

The music is somewhat eclectic, but certainly has a theme throughout. Some adjectives: haunting, rhythmic, restrained, cinematic, hypnotic, (sometimes) noisy.

Pretty early on, it was considered that a female vocalist would suit the style we envisage. I've always wanted to work with female vocals, and much of the stuff that influences us is female-lead. BUT we don't want run-of-the-mill. To be honest, we think lack of experience might be a slight advantage in this project. We want grit, imperfection. Some of the female vox we consider awesome include: Emma Ruth Rundle, Big Brave, PJ Harvey, Portishead (of whom we cover), Anna Von Hauswolff, Fiona Apple, Black Mountain/Lightning Dust, Julie Christmas, Karen O ... that gives the broad gist.

We're three guys in our mid-30s - but nice ones, all with jobs and cars and gear and respect. We're not going to take over the world. We're not insanely talented musicians (well, the drummer we hope to retain is). We just wanna write and record tunes we are stoked with, and play a gig once every 1-2 months. We're into a very diverse range of music, most of it in the rock genre umbrella.

The songs also have some keys in parts. We would want you to play those keys. If you have a keyboard, great! If you don't, we will arrange something. You can't play keys? Don't worry, neither can we, and we still managed to find single notes to fill some spots on our songs appropriately. That's all we're after. If you're uncertain, think of it as a fun little challenge to broaden your musical ability.

Interested? Check out https://luckband.bandcamp.com and then send us a message (here or via Bandcamp) if you want to see what's what. We promise to be nice, and excited at the fact that you like our (very much draft-only) songs at least enough to consider meeting up to discuss further.

Also, here's some notes taken from the email we sent to the drummer, which are relevant to a potential vocalist as well:
Quote:
Quite clearly, the programmed drums are basic as hell, to the point of boring. There are some elements within the drum programming that speak to what we like - rhymthic repetition, leaning towards a hypnotic feel, for instance - but we would insist that a real drummer brings flavour to the songs that simply isn't there yet, and thereby naturally elevate the songs' dynamics, and make them better!

These tracks are very much just ideas, a premise to work off. Yes, they take the form of complete songs based on a standard rock tune duration and structure, but whoever we end up working with, we hope they contribute as a full member to the songwriting process. And with that in mind, they'd be entitled to warp or scrap anything we create, including these existing sketches. Note that spaces within the songs have been intentionally left with room for vocals in mind.

Peace,
Matt / LUCK
