I dont like toneless shreading, But a smooth solo with heaps of tone and feeling can make a song, I rally like solo's with heaps of melody and a great mixtures of speed and style.

A few favourites

Cemetary gates - Dime - Probabably my all time favourite
Master of puppets bridge solo - Hetfield
This love - Dime
Novemeber rain - slash
Megadeth - symphony of destruction ( awesome metal solo)

For some different styles

Andy Timmons - Groove or die - INTENSE shreading, but done well
Scott Henderson - Dolemite - Awesome 2.5 Minute Blues fusion solo (totally improvised in one track) one of my favs

Even the spin doctors.. as 80's and cheesy as they are have a couple of Smoothy styley licks in their lead breaks
